Penn State University – Electro-Optics – Applied Research Laboratory
Jendoco Construction Corporation acting as the Contractor, Construction Manager and Developer, was awarded this project on a design-build, lease basis. A large field (approximately 30) initial teams responded to The Pennsylvania State University’s request for proposal. After several phases of submissions and presentations, Jendoco Construction was selected.
This state-of-the-art Electro-Optics lab and office building is approximately 45,000 square feet total with the ability to expand to 90,000 square feet. It is equipped with large mechanical and electrical systems to accommodate the laser/optic labs which are used to develop systems for the Department of Defense.
Extensive coordination of the various trades was required to insure proper sizing, location, and maintaining clear height of the mechanical / electrical / plumbing services. These included chilled water piping, jacketed nitrogen piping, sanitary piping, domestic water, compressed air piping, venting, supply and return ductwork, electrical bus duct and large electrical service runs from the main 4,000 AMP switchgear.
The building was occupied in January 2005.
