Spire & Bell Tower and Interior Restoration

In 1991, Jendoco Construction Corporation was contracted to perform the interior Restoration of the main sanctuary at Calvary Episcopal Church. The work consisted of cleaning the interior limestone which was soiled mainly due to the original coal fired heating system, removing and installing new hardwood floors beneath the existing pews, restore the existing 7511 pipes organ, restoration of several stained glass windows, modifications to the crossing and ruud screen which included hand made clay tile to match the existing, wood carvings, plaster patching and the repainting of the complete Sanctuary, roof repairs consisting of flat roofs and slate gable roofs and the construction of a new handicap ramp with limestone cheek walls.

In 2002, Jendoco Construction Corporation successfully orchestrated the multi-phased restoration of the spire, bell tower and main sanctuary at Calvary Episcopal Church.  This project involved working closely with the owner, conservation consultants, structural engineers and subcontractors to dismantle and rebuild the top twenty-six feet of the two-hundred and twenty five foot spire, replacement of all of the structural components, 100% re-point, and complete masonry restoration of the spire and bell tower.  Careful attention was placed on the historic significance of the structure which led to two awards:  City of Pittsburgh Historic Preservation Award, National Masonry Institute Golden Trowel Award – Best Restoration Project.
