Green Building Alliance – Headquarters Pittsburgh

Jendoco Construction Corporation was the general contractor for the 3,800 SF Green Building Alliance Offices located in the historic River Walk Corporate Center complex.

Construction of a LEED-CI project with a goal of Gold or better rating brings with it its own challenges. Building in a one-hundred year old warehouse brings additional challenges. Jendoco and the entire project team worked diligently together to overcome these challenges to provide a sustainable tenant space that is economical and practical;

Sustainable features and products include, reclaimed wood flooring, refurbished bowling alley lanes into counter tops, plyboo cabinetry with paperstone counter tops, wood framed glass walls constructed with FSC maple, natural cork used as insulation, American Clay Earth Plaster for wall finishes, Forbo Marmoleum flooring, nontoxic adhesives and coatings, locally manufactured glass and drywall, and sophisticated electrical systems and devices for improved energy use and monitoring.

Prior to the renovation, the existing space was heated by a turn of the century single pipe steam system with no ventilation or air conditioning. The new mechanical system is dedicated to the Green Building Alliance which provides 35% energy savings over the ASHRAE base case. The packaged mechanical roof top unit also includes MERV 13 filter, UV lights, 410a refrigerant, supply fan VFD, enthalpy controlled economizer, and Rawal refrigerant device for capacity control.

The space provides an open atmosphere through the use of full height glass walls which allows natural sunlight to transmit throughout the space.

The new office received a LEED-CI Platinum certification (First in Western Pennsylvania)
