Carnegie Mellon University
Tepper School of Business - Addition
Carnegie Mellon Universities’ Tepper School of Business continued growth resulted in the need to add square footage to the existing GSIA building. Jendoco Construction was selected as Construction Manager for the GSIA West Entry Addition Project.
The project scope consisted of a three story 4,675 SF addition. The First Floor included a new entrance/lobby and a Student Lounge with views of the adjacent exterior Peace Garden. The Second Floor included faculty offices, open office area and a small conference room. The third floor of the addition included a 2,000 s.f. conference center with magnificent views of the Schenley Park and the adjacent Peace Garden through its full height window wall. The conference center has built-in cherry millwork and state of the art presentation technologies including four project screens, three recessed projectors and a high quality sound system. The conference room also has a built in operable partition which allows the space to be divided for a more intimate meeting space.
Also included in the project were renovations to the West Entry Stair tower and the addition of an elevator in GSIA. The elevator was a challenge because it was installed into an existing elevator shaft from when the building was first constructed.
The project is a LEED Silver Project with many “Green Features” including a regenerative drive elevator, day light/lighting control systems, CO2 monitoring systems, and a GFRC Rain Screen Exterior Skin.
Jendoco, along with the project team of CMU, The Tepper School of Business, and the architect, achieved the original goals by building a “LEED Silver” space that added a large conference center, faculty offices, student lounge and ADA accessibility to the GSIA Building.
