Propel School - Munhall
The Propel school system prefers to develop their schools in former school buildings. This location, the former Saint Michael School in Munhall, PA, was ideal for an adaptive reuse. This building was very familiar to Jendoco as we originally constructed it in 1963.
The challenge was to provide a safe building for students and teachers. Code issues had to be addressed regarding all aspects of this building. Safe travel in and out of the building as well as throughout the three levels had to be considered. Larger doors had to be installed as well as providing handicap access without taking up too much valuable space. This was accomplished by installing two lifts in two, non-essential areas, which were central to the entire school.
New mechanical systems, as well as electrical systems, brought the building up to code and accessible toilet facilities were provided.
Energy efficient windows were installed along the entire South elevation. The building’s mechanical and lighting were also upgraded to energy efficient systems.
